Is Aniimo a Gacha Game? Monetization Explained
Free-to-play Aniimo has no gacha — creatures are caught, not pulled. Spending is cosmetics-led via Glimmer; we explain the model plus the beta gacha note.

Is Aniimo a gacha game?
Aniimo is not a traditional gacha game. You obtain creatures by catching them in the open world — the core loop is closer to Pokémon or Palworld than to Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail. There is no paid banner, no random pull, and no premium currency used to randomly unlock creatures.
How does Aniimo make money?
Aniimo is free-to-play with in-app purchases, confirmed on the official Steam page (it carries an “In-App Purchases” tag and no “gacha” tag). Spending is focused on cosmetics rather than power:
| Spend area | What it covers | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetics | Limited avatar frames, outfits, companion skins | Confirmed |
| Glimmer currency | Premium currency, mostly cosmetic store | Confirmed (uses not all public) |
| Battle Pass / monthly card | Tested in the China beta only | Global launch unconfirmed |
| Paid editions | Console-only optional packs | Confirmed (see Editions) |
Console players can buy optional cosmetic packs (Advanced ~$9.99 and Collector’s ~$19.99 on PS5); PC and mobile have no paid edition. For the full breakdown, see the editions page.
What is Glimmer?
Glimmer is Aniimo’s premium currency, confirmed on the official pre-registration site. Pre-registration milestones award Glimmer (for example the 10M milestone granted Glimmer ×200). Its exact in-store uses are not all published yet, but the developer’s stated direction is a cosmetic store, not creature unlocks.
Is Aniimo pay-to-win?
The published global model is cosmetics plus pay-for-convenience, not pay-for-power. The one watch-point the community flags is Egg Heist, the 3-player PvEvP mode: if paid items ever let players buy insurance against losing gear, Aniimo could earn a pay-to-win label. We are tracking this and will reassess after launch.
How many creatures are in Aniimo?
Sources give different creature counts depending on the build they measured, so we layer them rather than pick one:
| Source | Count | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Closed beta | 90+ numbered | Early test build |
| Developer / base game | ~120 base | Excludes variants |
| Publisher (FunPlus, gamescom) | 200+ | Long-term roadmap |
Treat “100+” as the safe public figure for now. We will update the exact launch count on the platforms overview as the developer confirms it.
Frequently asked questions
- Are there ads in Aniimo? No ad system is reported; monetization is in-app purchases and cosmetics.
- Can I get creatures without paying? Yes — every creature is caught in-world; none are locked behind a paid pull.
- Will the store change at launch? The full cosmetic store is not public pre-launch. The monetization picture will firm up once the live shop opens.
For platform-specific spend, the mobile page and PS5 page cover what each store offers.
